The American Society of Plastic Surgery came out with the nation wide 2008 statistics on the number of cosmetic surgery and minimally invasive procedures performed. There were nearly 1.7 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2008. Once again breast augmentation was the top of the list for the most popular surgical procedure with 307,000 surgeries performed in 2008. Behind it were rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), liposuction, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) respectively. The region with the most cosmetic procedures performed was the Pacific/Mountain region, which includes Colorado, with 29% of all cosmetic procedures performed in the United States being performed here!
Botox Cosmetic is still the leading minimally invasive procedure. There were 5 million Botox injections in 2008, an 8% increase from 2007. Hyaluronic acid fillers, like Juvederm, showed a 6 % increase from 2007 to 2008.
Although 2008 was financially rocky, the plastic surgery industry only saw a light drop in the overall number of cosmetic surgeries performed and even an increase in the minimally invasive procedures like Botox. People still have the need to feel good about themselves even in tough economic times and Dr. Terrence Murphy can help patients fill exactly the need they are looking for whether it be with surgery or less invasive injectables.
