Here at Murphy Plastic Surgery we usually recommend receiving Botox Cosmetic injections every three to four months to treat lines and wrinkles on your forehead, frown lines and crows feet. But now a new study has come out of Oregon Health and Science University stating that less frequent doses of Botox can be effective. The study followed 50 women between the ages of 30 and 50 who received regular Botox injections every four months for two years. They found that after those regular treatments the frequency of the injections can change to every six months and still achieve good results. So essentially after two years patients can cut their cost for Botox Cosmetic in half!
The study also demonstrated that Botox Cosmetic treatments can prevent wrinkles. These patients that started the Botox treatments in their 30’s, 40’s and even 50’s were able to prevent wrinkles from forming and effectively eliminate existing wrinkles.
Botox Cosmetic is a useful treatment for women and men of all ages. If you have been concerned about the time and financial commitment of these treatments this study is great news and a great incentive to start preventing and reducing wrinkles today. As always we offer discounted rates of $10 a unit of Botox every Tuesday at our Englewood, Colorado location.
Please call if you have any questions on Botox Cosmetic or other facial rejuvenation treatments, 303-788-8400.

Did you know that just about any physician can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon? There are weekend courses offered all over the country which supposedly teach physicians how to do liposuction and breast augmentations. That is why it is more important than ever to know how to find and choose a properly trained plastic surgeon. Choosing a doctor who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), as Dr. Murphy is, is the first step. Members of the ASPS must be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. They must also have had at least 6 years of surgical experience with 3 years specifically in plastic surgery and operate only in accredited medical facilities. Members must also adhere to a strict code of ethics and fulfill continuing education requirements including patient safety techniques.
In addition to being an ASPS member surgeon you need to find a surgeon that has hospital privileges to perform the procedure you want. Dr. Murphy not only has privileges to perform plastic surgery at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado, he is Chief of Plastic Surgery there as well. If the physician is performing procedures in a private surgical facility you want to be sure that the facility is accredited by an organization like The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). Dr. Murphy’s private surgical suite in Englewood is accredited by this organization and must pass inspections as well as reviews by his peers in the plastic surgery community.
You should know how long the plastic surgeon you are meeting with has been in practice and how many procedures they have done. Dr. Murphy has been in practice for 18 years now and performing procedures at his current location for the last 14 years. On average he performs around 40 cosmetic procedures a month.
If you have more questions about choosing a plastic surgeon or would like to know more questions you should ask a prospective plastic surgeon do not hesitate to call us at 303-788-8400.

Benefits of a Breast Reduction
No patient appreciates the benefits and well being achieved through surgery more than a patient who has had a breast reduction. Dr. Murphy uses a vertical technique during a breast reduction with a “lollipop” scar. This technique provides less scarring, a better overall breast shape and easier recovery for the patient. You may ask yourself, why not have this done by a physician that will take my insurance? When procedures are insurance driven the insurance company dictates your results. Often times the insurance provider will require a certain volume of breast tissue to be removed for the claim to be paid. This may leave you with a dramatic reduction that you could possibly not be pleased with. When you see Dr. Murphy you get to dictate your overall result taking out the exact amount of tissue that will leave you with a pleasing shape and overall appearance. This procedure is performed under local monitored sedation with an average downtime of 4-5 days post surgery. Please feel free to schedule your complimentary consultation to discuss your options for a breast lift procedure.
Convenient, Safe & Clean
Our surgical suite is accredited and inspected by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (aaaasf.org) The convenience of having your procedure performed in a surgical suite versus the hospital or an outpatient facility is priceless. There is lower risk of infection, the same staff handles your care from the initial consult all the way through your procedure to post operative care. Dr. Murphy has been performing procedures at our surgical suite since 1996 and feels that continuity of care is an investment not only in your care but also with your overall satisfaction with your cosmetic surgery.

Buttock augmentation has been one of the least commonly performed procedures in the United States. Maybe because potential patients lack information on this procedure or because it takes advanced knowledge on a physician’s part. We think it is time to enlighten the public on this procedure.
Here at Murphy Plastic Surgery Dr. Murphy performs buttock augmentation by using fat from another area of your own body and transferring that to the buttocks. Successful augmentation requires someone experienced in fat transfer, a procedure that Dr. Murphy has been performing over various parts of the body for over 18 years now. It takes a surgeon with advanced knowledge of the different anatomical and vascular structures of the the buttocks to be able to place the fat in areas that it will survive and become vascularized by the surrounding tissue. This tedious and meticulous procedure can take two or more hours in the operating room. Since this procedure is time consuming and delicate the cost of this procedure can run around $7500.
If you are interested in getting more information on buttock augmentation please call our office to set up a free consultation with Dr. Murphy, 303-788-8400.

Reveal Yourself
Over the years of performing plastic surgery Dr. Murphy has experienced a very personal request from women for labial reduction surgery. No two women are built exactly the same and many women are not pleased with the appearance or shape of their labia minora (which are the inner vaginal lips). As this is a more delicate subject and maybe an uncomfortable conversation for women to have, Dr . Murphy would like to put your mind at ease and let you know that it is a procedure that he does perform often and invites you to have this conversation with him.
It is natural after having children that the labial may lengthen or become more thin. Dr. Murphy’s attention to detail and experience allow him to perform this procedure with ease and very little down time for the patient.
Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia (male breast reduction) is becoming one of the more popular plastic surgeries for men to undergo. This condition is quite common, it effects 40 to 60 percent of men.
Gynecomastia surgery is performed to eliminate the excess breast fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts and in some cases removes excess skin. Results reveal a chest that is flatter, firmer, and contoured to patient satisfaction.

The American Society of Plastic Surgery came out with the nation wide 2008 statistics on the number of cosmetic surgery and minimally invasive procedures performed. There were nearly 1.7 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2008. Once again breast augmentation was the top of the list for the most popular surgical procedure with 307,000 surgeries performed in 2008. Behind it were rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), liposuction, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) respectively. The region with the most cosmetic procedures performed was the Pacific/Mountain region, which includes Colorado, with 29% of all cosmetic procedures performed in the United States being performed here!
Botox Cosmetic is still the leading minimally invasive procedure. There were 5 million Botox injections in 2008, an 8% increase from 2007. Hyaluronic acid fillers, like Juvederm, showed a 6 % increase from 2007 to 2008.
Although 2008 was financially rocky, the plastic surgery industry only saw a light drop in the overall number of cosmetic surgeries performed and even an increase in the minimally invasive procedures like Botox. People still have the need to feel good about themselves even in tough economic times and Dr. Terrence Murphy can help patients fill exactly the need they are looking for whether it be with surgery or less invasive injectables.

Today we had an inspection of Dr. Terrence Murphy’s private surgical suite located in his office at 601 E. Hampden, Suite 310 in Englewood, CO. Dr. Murphy’s surgery facility is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc (AAAASF), which is the largest accreditation organization in the world. Being accredited by the AAAASF ensures patients the highest quality and safety in all aspects of their plastic surgery. We must meet stringent national standards for all of the operating room equipment, operating room safety, personnel and surgeon credentials.
Many surgery facilities are not accredited and therefore do not follow the strict and necessary guidelines provided by the AAAASF or other accreditation agencies. It is highly important when choosing your plastic surgeon to not only ask for their credentials but their surgery center’s credentials as well. Through the accreditation process and Dr. Murphy’s detail for patient care, patients at Murphy Plastic Surgery can rest easy and know that they are in the cleanest, most up to date and safest environment possible for all of their surgery needs.
