Asclera is the new FDA approved treatment for spider veins. Spider veins most often occur in the legs but can show up in other areas of the body. These unsightly veins most often occur in women and can increase during pregnancy and as women age. It is thought that jobs with prolonged standing can increase spider veins as well.
Treatments with Asclera will be more tolerable, have fewer side effects and cost less than any other spider vein treatment currently on the market. Asclera should be available at our office by July 14, 2010!

We have an amazing “Sweetheart” deal going on for the month of February. All breast augmentation surgeries, both saline and silicone, scheduled for the month of February are discounted by $1000. That is only $5200 for saline implants and $6200 for silicone implants. This cost includes your doctor’s fee, operating room fee and anesthesia fee!
Breast augmentation surgery is easier and more affordable than most people think. Surgery is performed at our accredited operating room in our Englewood, Colorado office. Patients are seen the day after surgery and again 3 to 5 days after surgery. Most patients are able to go back to normal daily activities including work after their 3 to 5 day appointment, although it takes several more weeks to completely heal and see the final results.
If you have ever thought about having breast augmentation surgery, now is the time. Take advantage of our “sweet” deal and be swimsuit ready by spring break!

There was a great article on Latisse in the June 2009 issue of Allure magazine. Calling Latisse a breakthrough formula that delivers. Latisse is used once a day like a liquid eyeliner to grow eyelashes thicker, longer and darker. One doctor in the article is quoted as saying “This is a huge breakthrough. I’ve used it and several members of my family have used it . . . and it’s really made a difference.”
Latisse was discovered as a side effect to the glaucoma drug, Lumigan. Researchers zeroed in on Lumigan’s active ingredient the prostiglandin bimatoprost and found that it really does work in lengthening and thickening eyelashes. The Allure magazine article is quoted as saying at the end of Lattise’s 16 week clinical study, 78% of patients averaged a 25% gain in lash length, an 18% increase in darkness and a 106% increase in fullness. Allergan, the maker’s of Latisse, hold the patent on the use of prostiglandin in eyelash-growth products. It is the only FDA approved eyelash growth product and can only be obtained through a physician.
Most users will notice a difference in 8 weeks, with full results visible in 16 weeks. Eyelash growth will eventually reach a plateau and if you discontinue the product lashes will return to their normal growth cycle. The article mentions that doctor’s are already experimenting with ways to stretch Latisse’s benefit, like once you’ve reached your desired eyelash length you can cut use back to every other day or every third day.
The Allure magazine article mentions some other nonprescription products that are still on the market but doctors are wary of these. One doctor is quoted as saying “they may have some capability, but they just haven’t been studied in a controlled fashion.” And another says “Trying these products may have been one thing when you didn’t have a good, FDA approved option but now you do.”
Murphy Plastic Surgery has been selling Latisse at our Englewood, Colorado location since February of 2009. Several of the girls in the office have been using it since this time with great success, and have now tapered their use to every other or every third night with positive results. You can stop by anytime or call the office to have Latisse delivered directly to you. The cost is $120 for a 60 day supply.

September is always a busy month here and this year is no exception. I have been busy with the media this month arranging for some articles about The Colorado Center for Breast Augmentation. Recently I appeared on the local Fox affiliate Fox 31 Denver to discuss the safety of breast implants, in particular silicone implants for breast augmentation. There is a link to the video on our website. I tried to emphasize the safety of the implants, in particular, the newest generation of silicone gel implants with thicker implant shells and thicker silicone gel which decreases the risk to the patient if the implant leaks. No implant is perfect but the newest silicone gel implants have withstood the highest research scrutiny ever given to a medical device on its way to FDA approval. We also discussed how the current availability of breast implants brings to each woman a huge matrix of implant choices which will help to give them the most satisfactory result. Today I am having an interview with the Villager Newspaper to discuss The Colorado Center for Breast Augmentation with an emphasis on the same issues. Breast augmentation continues to be the number one cosmetic procedure performed on women and I will continue to strive to bring as much education to the public as possible regarding this high satisfaction procedure.

Our very own plastic surgeon, Dr. Terrence Murphy, was on Denver’s 106.7 KBPI radio station earlier this week. The radio station’s morning crew, Willy B and Missy, interviewed Dr. Murphy on his expertise on breast implants. The interview on the station that “Rocks the Rockies” was lots of fun. Look for the link to the interview on our websites www.murphyplsticsurgery.com and www.breastaugmentation-denver.com soon.
