Lip Enhancement
One of the more complex challenges in plastic and cosmetic surgery is the perioral region. Injectables such as Juvederm , Prevelle Silk or Collagen are temporary, lasting anywhere from 3-9 months. Although these dermal fillers are excellent products patients have to return to have these treatments performed periodically to meet their personal desires and expectations.
Dr. Murphy is excited to introduce a new facial implant to our office. Perma-Lip facial implant is made of a soft silicone elastomer using an injection molding process to produce a naturally contoured & smooth surface that cannot rupture or deflate. This is a FDA approved device and has undergone extensive clinical testing to ensure it’s safety and efficacy. Based upon studies and patient satisfaction levels the Perma-Lip implant is an excellent solution for permanent lip augmentation. During an exam by Dr. Murphy the proper size would be determined and discussed with the patient. This procedure can be performed in our office under a local anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately one hour and normal activity may be resumed the following day.
Pricing for this procedure is roughly $3,000.00.
Radiesse Special !!
During the month of November purchase a 0.8 cc or 1.5 cc syringe and get a 0.8cc syringe free! ($500 value)
Treating Melasma and Dark Spot
No topical treatment has been proven more effective for treating melasma and skin pigmentary irregularities than Tri-Luma cream. Tri-Luma is the first and only triple action cream for temporary treatment for hyperpigmentation and melasma (dark pigmentation) of the face. It contains three prescription grade medications, fluocinoloneacetonide .01%, hydroquinone 4% and tretinoin .05%. Some patients will see improvement in as little as 4 weeks and see significant lightening after 8 weeks. Set up a complimentary skin care consultation to see if Tri Luma or any other of our medically based skin care lines is right for you.

Did you know there is a safe, permanent option for lip augmentation? The Perma Lip implant is a patented , FDA approved facial implant that is now available at Murphy Plastic Surgery. The lip implant is made from a soft, solid silicone that cannot rupture or deflate. It comes in several different sizes, so through a consultation with Dr. Murphy at our Englewood, Colorado office, you are sure to find the perfect fit for you.
The lip augmentation procedure can be done under local anesthesia and takes less than an hour to perform. You can return to normal daily activities in a day or two.
We are quite excited about this permanent solution to the age old problem of lips losing their fullness and shape as we age.

Facial Enhancement
Facial rejuvenation surgical procedures can be done to help improve the self confidence of patients who want to enhance their facial features. These procedures are not a “one size fits all” type of approach. Each patient’s facial anatomy and lifestyle demands are different and therefore each patient requires a different surgical plan to meet their individual expectations. A plan involving one or more procedures may be recommended such as facelift, forehead contouring, blepharoplasty, lip augmentation, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, fat grafting and laser resurfacing . Of course, not all of these procedures would always be necessary for one patient. During the consultation and pre-operative appointment Dr. Murphy will listen to the patient’s desired expectations and orchestrate the plan for surgery accordingly.
If you or someone you know is considering one or more of these cosmetic procedures please contact our office to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Murphy.
$50 Rebate for Botox
Botox rebates have been extended to December 31, 2009. If you plan to have 20 or more units of Botox you will want to take advantage of this! Please call or come in for more details.

Last night was Murphy Plastic Surgery’s semi-annual informational seminar, hosted at our office in Englewood, Colorado. We had lots of fun and hopefully imparted some great information to our attendees. Our live demonstrations on skin care treatments included a Microlaser Peel by Dr. Murphy and our latest favorite, the Vi-Peel, performed by Elizabeth Murphy. Both procedures are great ways to freshen the skin, especially after being out in the summer sun. They can help eliminate fine lines, sun spots and improve overall tone and texture. We have seen consistently great results with the Vi-Peel, more so than any peel we have carried in the past and the Microlaser is beneficial because the depth of the peel can be determined and changed by the patient and provider. Our new glo-Professional rep, Juliana Ferrall, was also here to answer questions about Cellex-C skin care and how to maintain beautiful skin after one of these skin treatments.
Our nurses, MaryBeth and Amber, performed Juvederm and Botox Cosmetic treatments on several patients. For the first time at one of our events we had two male models for Botox Cosmetic. This treatment to relax forehead and crows feet wrinkles is becoming more and more popular among all genders and ages! The demonstrations of Juvederm included filling the nasolabial folds (lines that run from your nose to mouth) on one patient, smoothing out the contour and resulting in a softer, younger appearance, and plumping the limps of another patient, an always popular treatment.
We hope everyone had as much fun as we did and if you have any questions about any of the treatments mentioned above please call us anytime!

There was an interesting article recently in the September 2009 issue of Plastic Surgery News by Jim Leonardo. Apparently a group of 23 women from China made a trek to South Korea to receive plastic surgery. All of the women, ranging in age from 23 to 54, wore big hats and sunglasses and some still hand bandages and sutures on their return trip home. The border officials in China became suspicious and didn’t accept their passports. “We saw them looking different and with bandages and stiches here and there” an airpot official said. “We had to compare their uncorrected parts with their photos very carefully.” Eventuallly, after detaining the women for several hours until each ones identity could be verified, they were released and asked to renew their passports immediately.
Luckily here at Murphy Plastic Surgery we are affiliated with the Monarch Retreat located in Cherry Creek North in Denver, where you can rest and recuperate after surgery and not have to deal with questioning airline officials!

Better than Botox - Brow Lift
Brow lifts are commonly overlooked as a cosmetic procedure. We would like to discuss the overall benefits, both aesthetically and financially. A brow lift will potentially decrease the lines that appear on the forehead with age and, with a corrugator muscle release performed at the same time, can improve the frown lines. This procedure will raise the eyebrows, especially laterally leading to a refreshing, youthful, natural appearing arch. Results from a brow lift can last 10 to 15 years.
Botox is a less permanent solution to all of the same complaints we see with brow lift patients. Botox treatments are quick, easy and require very little down time, but the brow lift is an option for patients that do not want to continuously schedule treatments and would like a more permanent result. To the right we have made a cost comparison on Botox vs. a Brow Lift.
Botox
Typical patient will get Botox injections 4 times per year at $250– $300 each sitting. This equals between $1000—$1200 per year. Over 4 year period patient will spend roughly $4,000.00.
Brow Lift Procedure
This is an out patient procedure done in our operating room suite. Dr. Murphy will include a corrugator release, which is the muscle between the eyebrows. Cost for procedure is approximately $5,250.00. This includes the anesthesia fee, operating room fee and post-operative appointments.

Not only does our exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, which we are closer to in Colorado, lead to skin cancers but artificial sources of ultraviolet can lead to it as well. Tanning bed exposure can even increase damagae caused by the sun because all exposure to ultraviolet light thins the skin. A recent report by the National Cancer Institute stated that women who use tanning beds more than once a month are 55% more likely to develop malignant melinoma! Artificial tanning can be more dangerous to people who burn easily or have a history of skin cancer in their family but everyone whom uses tanning booths or has long-term exposure to natural sunlight is at risk of developing skin cancer.
What should you do to help prevent getting skin cancer? 1. Avoid tanning booths 2. Use a suncreen with spf 30 that contains either zinc oxide or titanuim dioxide (the only ingredients which actually block the suns uv rays). We sell several sunscreens and moisturizers at Murphy Plastic Surgery that fit this bill 3. Do monthly self exams and look for skin abnormalities that change in size, change in color or itch or become scabby 4. You should also see a physician annually for an exam. If caught early skin cancer can be almost 100% curable!
